In The Wrong Side of the Tracks, Coslovi explores the spatial segregation of Viale Gramsci in Modena: a marginalized neighborhood, both physically and symbolically separated from the rest of the city by the railway, home to the second largest Ghanaian community in Italy. The project seeks to deconstruct the dominant narrative surrounding the community and to foster a dialogue with it through a participatory and collaborative approach, actively involving some of its members in the creation of the photographs. Central to the work is the theme of dwelling, and the tension between the daily precariousness experienced by individuals and the spaces they inhabit, and the dream of inner balance and a future perspective. In the editing phase, Coslovi also collaborates with Rena Souleymane, a lawyer from within the community and an important point of reference for him, with the aim of offering an insider’s perspective and providing the community itself with an additional way to represent and define itself.
