Rizoma — Una Rubrica Plurale e Interculturale
ITA

I named my column “Rizoma” inspired by the thought of Édouard Glissant.
I am fascinated by the idea of the rhizome as a form of knowledge that grows in multiple directions, without a single center from which everything stems.
With this column, I hope to create a space where the references—photographic and otherwise—that inform my artistic practice become opportunities to engage with plural forms of knowledge, predominantly non-Eurocentric, capable of questioning dominant narratives and opening up new ways of seeing and imagining the world: a plural, decolonial, intercultural, intersectional, and queer space, grounded in the principles that guide my research.
In keeping with this idea, the column will often open itself to the contributions of others—friends, artists, and people I have encountered along the way—allowing each text to emerge from the encounter between different perspectives. I hope Rizoma will grow, as its name suggests, through relations, branching connections, and cross-pollinations, never claiming to become a single or definitive voice.
DECOLONIAL because it rejects the idea that legitimate knowledge originates solely from Western centers of power, recognizing that there is no universal perspective but many situated viewpoints.
PLURAL because it affirms that there is no “single story,” a single way of living, or a single experience of the world, and therefore embraces multiple narratives and diverse voices.
INTERCULTURAL because it is founded on the encounter between cultures that engage in dialogue, influence each other, and transform one another.
INTERSECTIONAL because it acknowledges that forms of oppression do not act separately but intertwine, overlap, and manifest simultaneously in people’s lives.
QUEER because it embraces the critique of normativity as a mode of knowing, questioning every category that presents itself as natural, stable, or universal, and opening space for multiple subjectivities, relations, and imaginaries.
Due to space limitations, the full versions of the articles will be available on my Substack profile.
